The Van Winkle Law Firm announced its commitment to offer an ongoing public policy lecture series geared toward the thoughtful consideration of and discussion around important policy issues that face Buncombe County, the state and the nation.
The Van Winkle Law Firm Public Policy Lectures begins October 12 at UNC Asheville’s Kimmel Arena in the Wilma M. Sherrill Center. The Van Winkle Law Firm partnered with The David and Lin Brown Visionary Lecture Series and UNC Asheville to bring The New York Times columnist and social and political commentator David Brooks to Asheville.
While the October 12 event with David Brooks is free for the public, all seats were quickly reserved and a waiting list now exists for any last minute cancellations. In addition to his contributions to The New York Times, Mr. Brooks regularly appears on NBC’s Meet the Press, PBS Newshour and NPR’s All Things Considered. In his writing and public speaking, Brooks examines and analyzes American society’s impact on current politics.
“We are honored to partner with UNCA and Chancellor and Ms. Brown in sponsoring Mr. Brooks,” said Caroline Knox, president of The Van Winkle Law Firm. “The interest in this first lecture in our new Public Policy Lecture series has been overwhelming.”
The Van Winkle Law Firm Public Policy Lectures was developed out of a desire within the firm to encourage and promote constructive and thoughtful analysis of and conversation about public policy issues.
“Having provided legal services to western North Carolinians over multiple generations, we knew that the timing was right for informed discussions around policy issues,” said Knox. “The Van Winkle Law Firm Public Policy Lectures is one way that we can respond to that need.” Knox notes that future lecture topics and speakers are currently being identified, with input from their community partners. “Our shared vision is to bring speakers to our community who will focus on a variety of public policy issues in America today and to encourage dialogue about such issues.”
